Songs

Since Lauren's death, three songs that have repeatedly emerged that capture the essence of the natural wonders that she loved so much.

  • "October Wind" is an original composition by Cris Kelly, one of Lauren's colleagues at Astrocamp. This lovely song uses metaphors from nature to tell the story of how he remembers Lauren Interess, Jody Wilson and Lauren Dunn. Cris performed "October Wind" at the Memorial Service for all three women held in Idyllwild, California, on October 10, 1999, and at the Dedication of the Lauren Interess Observatory on November 7, 1999.
  • "This Land is Your Land" is the familiar 60-year-old tune by Woody Guthrie.

  • The "Navajo Song" is a Native American prayer of appreciation for the beauty of creation.
