On October 10, 1999, at the beginning of its memorial service, the staff of Astrocamp planted three trees, each of which is dedicated to the memory of Lauren Interess, Lauren Dunn and Jody Wilson. The trees are in immediate proximity to each other with enough space between them that they can receive the moisture, nutrients and sunlight needed to sustain them over the next couple of hundred years or more.
One of two Coulter pines with a sky chart left as a remembrance. Also known as big cone pines, Coulters produce the largest pine cones in North America.

Their location, where the meadow meets the forest on the DSSC campus, is a peaceful spot with an exquisite view of the San Jacinto Mountains, framed by the mature trees in the foreground.
In the days after the memorial service, the staff moved a large sitting stone that now has access to the beautiful vista beyond the young plantings.
